What is a crown?

No we’re not talking about the one that Meghan and Harry gave up…we’re talking about dental crowns!

When a tooth is damaged it can be restored with a filling, but when there is a significant amount of tooth structure missing, a regular filling may not be strong enough. This is where a dental crown is more appropriate as a long term option.

A porcelain crown is custom-made in a lab that is then fitted on to the tooth. The crown will cover the entire tooth, providing strength.

A large filing may need to be replaced every 3-7 years, whereas a crown can last much longer. They are also more aesthetic, as they mimic the shape and colour of natural teeth.

*Results and treatment options may very from patient to patient. See a qualified dental practitioner to determine if this treatment is suitable for you.
