When do I start brushing my child’s teeth?

This is a common question many parents ask. You should start cleaning your child’s teeth as soon as they appear in the mouth 👶


Starting with a soft cloth and wiping off any soft build up of plaque and eventually introducing a small soft toothbrush.

At 18 months you can start using a small pea sized amount of age appropriate fluoride toothpaste. It is important to encourage your child to spit but not rinse afterwards 💦


Brushing twice a day and using a 2 minute timer encourages healthy life long habits. Generally a child needs their parent to brush for them twice a day until they are able to independently tie their shoelaces; as they have not developed enough dexterity to brush effectively. Even after they are able to brush independently, supervision may still be necessary 😜
